Abstract Purpose (1) to verify to what extent the occurrence of possible errors is influenced by the relationship (opaque/transparent) between fricative phonemes and the graphemes with which they can be spelled; (2) verify the differences (if present or not) of relationship types among the phonemes that present common graphemic relationships. Methods We analyzed 750 textual productions from children in the first year of Elementary School (ES), and conducted a survey of the frequency of correct answers and errors in all fricative phonemes of Brazilian Portuguese (BP). Results The errors occurred in greater numbers in the group of phonemes with opaque spelling when compared with the number of errors in the group of phonemes with transparent spelling. In the first group, the errors showed a non-symmetrical behavior, since they varied according to the possibilities of graphemes for each phoneme. In the second group, the errors showed a symmetrical behavior. Conclusion Given the symmetry in the errors of the phonemes of the first group and the non-symmetry of those of the second group, our results point to a gradation in the occurrence of errors, which varies as a function of the transparency and degree of opacity in the relations between phonemes and graphemes of a same class.

Resumo Objetivo (1) verificar em que medida a ocorrência de possíveis erros seria influenciada pelo tipo de relação (opaca/transparente) que os fonemas fricativos mantêm com os grafemas com que podem ser ortografados; (2) verificar, dentre esses dois tipos de relações, se os fonemas que apresentam relações grafêmicas comuns apresentam ou não diferenças entre si. Método Foram analisadas 750 produções textuais de crianças do 1º ano do Ensino Fundamental (EF). Nessas produções, foi realizado o levantamento da frequência de acertos e de erros na ortografia de fonemas fricativos do Português Brasileiro (PB). Resultados Os erros ocorreram em maior número no grupo de fonemas com ortografia opaca quando comparados com o número de erros no grupo de fonemas com ortografia transparente. No primeiro grupo, os erros apresentaram comportamento não simétrico, já que variaram em função das possibilidades de grafemas para cada fonema. Já no segundo grupo, os erros apresentaram comportamento simétrico. Conclusão Dadas a simetria nos erros dos fonemas do primeiro grupo e a não simetria naqueles do segundo grupo, os resultados obtidos apontam para uma gradação na ocorrência de erros, que varia em função da transparência e do grau de opacidade nas relações entre fonemas e grafemas de uma mesma classe.

OBJETIVOS: descrever o desempenho ortográfico de crianças - quanto ao registro de consoantes oclusivas do Português Brasileiro; verificar se a acento influencia a ocorrência de erros no interior das palavras; e classificar o padrão da distribuição dos erros. MÉTODOS: foram analisadas 210 produções textuais referentes a 14 propostas temáticas, coletadas durante o ano de 2001, quando os sujeitos cursavam a 1ª série do Ensino Fundamental. Para descrever o desempenho das crianças, para o primeiro objetivo, os dados foram divididos em Acertos e Erros; para segundo objetivo, os erros foram classificados em sílabas acentuadas e não-acentuadas, e, por fim, para o terceiro objetivo, os erros foram subclassificados em omissões, erros ortográficos e erros fonológicos. Os erros fonológicos foram subdivididos, ainda, conforme ocorressem dentro e fora da classe. RESULTADOS: para o primeiro objetivo, encontraram-se 5.746 possibilidades de ocorrência de consoantes oclusivas na posição de ataque silábico simples, com maior quantidade de acertos; para o segundo objetivo, observou-se maior ocorrência de erros em sílabas não-acentuadas; e por fim, para o terceiro objetivo, foi possível observar predomínio de erros fonológicos, seguidos pelas omissões e pelos erros ortográficos, tanto no interior das sílabas não-acentuadas quanto das acentuadas. Ainda conforme o terceiro objetivo, nos erros fonológicos, observou-se sua maior ocorrência dentro da classe; e novamente, não-influência do acento. CONCLUSÃO: conclui-se, então, a importância da análise dos aspectos fonéticos-fonológicos na aquisição da ortografia infantil, bem como a relevância da distribuição dos acertos tanto como dos erros.

PURPOSES: to describe the children's orthographic performance - regarding to the record of plosive consonants from the Brazilian Portuguese; check if the accent influences the occurrence of mistakes inside the words; and classify the pattern of the mistakes distribution. METHODS: 210 text productions referred to 14 thematic proposals were analyzed, they were collected during the year 2001, when the individuals attended the First grade of Primary School. To describe the children's performance, for the first objective, the data were divided in Hits and Mistakes; for the second objective, the mistakes were classified according to their occurrence in accented and non-accented syllables, and, finally, for the third objective, the mistakes were subclassified in omissions, orthographic and phonological mistakes. The phonological mistakes were even subdivided, according to their occurrence inside and outside the occlusive class. RESULTS: for the first objective, 5.746 possibilities of occurrence of plosive consonants in a position of simple syllable onset were found, with a high amount of hits; for the second objective, it was observed a higher occurrence of mistakes in non-accented syllables; and finally, for the third objective, it was possible to observe the predominance of phonological mistakes, followed by omissions and by orthographic mistakes, both inside the non-accented syllables and the accented ones. Still according to the third objective, in the phonological mistakes, a higher occurrence of mistakes inside the class was observed and, again, no accent influence. CONCLUSION: the importance of the phonetic-phonological aspects analysis in the acquisition of child orthography is highlighted, as well as the relevance of the distribution of hits and mistakes in the orthographic performance.

Objetivos: Descrever o desempenho ortográfico de crianças, no que se refere ao registro de consoantes soantes do Português Brasileiro; verificar se os erros em seus registros sofrem influência do acento no interior da palavra e categorizar os tipos de erros encontrados. MÉTODOS: Para a presente pesquisa, foram selecionadas 801 produções textuais resultantes do desenvolvimento de 14 diferentes propostas temáticas, realizadas por 76 crianças da primeira série do ensino fundamental, em 2001, de duas escolas de um município paulista. Dessas, foram selecionadas as palavras com ocorrência de consoantes soantes em posição silábica de ataque simples. Foram, então, organizadas conforme aparecessem em sílabas pré-tônicas, tônicas, pós-tônicas, monossílabos átonos e tônicos. RESULTADOS: Observou-se: quantidade de acertos extremamente maior do que de erros; maior ocorrência de erros em sílabas não acentuadas; maior ocorrência de substituições fonológicas seguida de omissões e, por fim, de substituições ortográficas; e maior número de ocorrência de substituições que envolveram grafemas referentes à classe das consoantes soantes. CONCLUSÃO: Considerar a distribuição de dados ortográficos entre acertos e erros, bem como suas relações com aspectos fonético-fonológicos, pode contribuir para o entendimento das dificuldades escolares encontradas nas séries iniciais de alfabetização.

PURPOSE: To describe the spelling performance of children with regard to the record of sonorant consonants in Brazilian Portuguese language, to verify if the errors in their records were influenced by the accent in the word, and to categorize the kinds of errors found. METHODS: For this current survey, 801 text productions were selected as a result of the development of 14 different thematic proposals, prepared by 76 children from the first grade of primary school, in 2001, coming from two schools of a city from São Paulo, Brazil. Of these productions, all words with sonorant consonants in a syllabic position of simple onset were selected. They were then organized as they appeared as pre-tonic, tonic, and post-tonic syllables, unstressed and tonic monosyllables. RESULTS: The following was observed: the number of hits was extremely higher than that of errors; higher occurrence of errors in non-accented syllables; higher occurrence of phonological substitutions followed by omissions and, at last, orthographic substitutions; and higher number of substitutions that involved graphemes referring to the sonorant class. CONCLUSION: Considering the distribution of orthographic data between hits and errors, as well as their relationship with phonetic-phonological aspects, may contribute to the comprehension of school difficulties, which are usually found in the first years of literacy instruction.

Objetivos (1) descrever o desempenho ortográfico de crianças no registro das consoantes fricativas em posição de ataque silábico simples; (2) verificar a influência do acento na ocorrência de erros; (3) categorizar a tipologia dos erros encontrados. Métodos Foram selecionadas produções textuais de 15 crianças, que cursaram a 1ª série do Ensino Fundamental no ano de 2001, referentes a 14 propostas temáticas. Dessas produções, foram selecionadas todas as palavras com ocorrência de consoantes fricativas em posição silábica de ataque simples. Essas ocorrências foram distribuídas em acertos e erros, organizados conforme aparecessem em sílabas pretônicas, tônicas, postônicas, monossílabos átonos e monossílabos tônicos. Resultados Observou-se (1) predomínio de acertos em relação a erros; (2) não relevância do acento no registro não convencional das fricativas; (3) maior ocorrência de substituições fonológicas, seguidas de ortográficas e, em menor número, omissões; (4) predomínio de erros dentro da classe fonológica das fricativas. Conclusão O grupo de crianças estudado, ainda que em início de alfabetização, já se mostra bastante estável no registro dos grafemas que remetem aos fonemas fricativos. Observou-se que o erro parece ser motivado, principalmente, pela dificuldade dessas crianças com as convenções ortográficas do Português Brasileiro.

Purpose (1) describe children’s orthographic performance in the record of fricative consonants in a position of simple syllabic attack; (2) verify the influence of the accent in errors occurrence; and (3) categorize the kind of errors found. Methods Fifteen children’s text productions were selected, they attended the First grade of Primary School in 2001, referred to 14 thematic proposals. From these productions, all the words with occurrence of fricative consonants in syllabic position of simple attack were selected. These occurrences were distributed in hits and errors, these were, then, organized according to the appearance in pre-tonic, tonic and post-tonic syllables, unstressed monosyllables and tonic monosyllables. Results It was noted that (1) a predominance of hits compared to the errors; (2) the non-relevance of the accent in the record of unconventional fricatives; (3) higher occurrence of phonological substitutions, followed by the orthographical ones and, finally, in lower number, omissions; (40 predominance of errors inside the fricative phonological class. Conclusion The group of children studied, even in the beginning of literacy, already shows very stable in the record of graphemes that is sent to the fricative phonemes. At last, it was observed that the errors seems to be motivated, mainly, by the difficulty of these children with the spelling of PB.
